Paul’s Awesome English Dictionary: Today’s Word – Tarma

How many times has this happened to you? You’ve been mean to someone. Moments later, the sky rains down cows. One of them lands on your foot. That’s karma. Or you foil a bank robbery by tripping the thieves as they head to their getaway car. Moments later, you find a shiny quarter on the sidewalk. That’s karma, too.

We all know what happens whenever you do something really evil and vicious.  Two cows rain down on your head. Well all know this as CARMA. Don’t want that.

But what happens when you act really, really nice to some people? What happens then? Why you’ll receive a free, incredibly tasty taco.

If only there were a word to describe this wonderful type of karma. And now we have.

You Need to See a Decadent Chocolate Cake

We’ve all had moments when we shouldn’t eat chocolate cake; probably when we’re on a diet. Then there are times when we are too sick to eat anything but the blandest foods, or even anything at all. Our ailing bodies simply won’t let us. “There will be consequences,” they warn.

Yet eventually the tyranny of the simplest foods will eventually pass. Eating will get easier, better. Courage, my friends, you’ll soon be devouring tasty, decadent food. And here it is:

Vote Bacon & Chocolate – Doughnuts

The unrelenting grimness and humiliation of Bacon & Chocolate Party from November’s election sobered up its leadership something considerable. I’m glad to say that we’ve learned from our mistakes and will move on. To glory.

We will now doing our campaign before the election and not after it was we have just done. Sure, that seems obvious now. But that’s all in the past. As indeed, is everything we’ve ever done.

Smoked Pork Ribs

American Entree

SMOKED PORK RIBS

INGREDIENTS

2 pounds pork ribs
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1½ tablespoons paprika
2 teaspoons salt
¼ cup barbecue sauce

SPECIAL UTENSILS

smoker
electric thermometer
wood chips (oak, apple, hickory, pecan, cherry, or mesquite)

Serves 4. Takes 5 hours. Time includes preheating the smoker. Times vary with smokers.

PREPARATION

Preheat smoker to 250 degrees. Add wood chips to smoker. While smoker heats, use brush to spread ribs with yellow mustard. (This helps keep the following rub on the ribs.) While smoker preheats, add brown sugar, chili powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt to mixing bowl. Mix with whisk or fork until well blended. Rub mixture evenly over both sides of ribs.

Add ribs to smoker rack. Insert electric thermometer in the middle of the ribs. Avoid the bones. The ribs are done when the internal meat temperature reaches 190 degrees or when the meat retracts . Remove from heat. Brush ribs with barbecue sauce. Return ribs to smoker. Smoke for 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Tear pork into individual ribs.

TIDBITS

1) The pork ribs shown above look like a butterfly. Indeed, pigs often hide in swarms of butterflies. Since they spend so much time together, it is important to compare pork ribs with butterflies.

Double Chocolate Pudding

American Dessert

DOUBLE CHOCOLATE PUDDING

INGREDIENTSDoubleChocolatePudding-

2 tablespoons unsalted butter
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tablespoons cornstarch
½ cup whole milk (1½ cups more later)
3 ounces (3 squares) unsweetened baking chocolate
¾ cup sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
1½ cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
whipped cream for topping (Optional? I don’t think so.)

Makes 6 pudding cups. Takes 30 minutes to 8 hours, depending on how long you can wait.

PREPARATION

Cut butter into little bits. Add cocoa powder and cornstarch to bowl. Blend thoroughly with whisk. Add ½ cup milk. Stir until there are no lumps.

Add baking chocolate to pot. Simmer at low heat until chocolate melts. Stir constantly. Gradually add sugar and salt, stirring constantly with whisk until well blended. Slowly add 1½ cup milk. Stir constantly with whisk until well blended. Add butter, vanilla extract and cocoa/cornstarch mix from bowl. Stir constantly until thoroughly blended. Increase heat to medium. Continue whisking for 3 minutes or until pudding comes to a boil and thickens. Lower heat to warm. Simmer for 1 minute. Stir constantly.

Pour pudding into pudding cups. Let cool for 10 minutes if you wish to eat warm, soft pudding, If however, you desire a cold, firmer pudding, cover cups with plastic wrap to prevent a thick skin from forming on top. Place cups in refrigerator. Chill for 3-to-8 hours. Serve as is to distant acquaintances and tolerated relatives. Top with whipped cream to friends and loved ones.

Sandwich Police And A Police Car With Doughnut Tires

From the town of Sandwich, Massachusetts. This photo really made my day.

“That’s not why I’m pulling you over. You’re eating a peanut-butter and prosciutto sandwich.”

 

And there’s a deli in Sandwich called The Deli. It has been claimed they have the best sandwiches in the state.

This is a funny photo. I wish I could track down the story on this one. Police with a sense of humor? A conversion of a one-time police car? Owned by a doughnut shop?

Cheese-Egg Salad

American Entree

CHEESE-EGG SALAD

INGREDIENTSChEgSal-

1 head iceberg lettuce
4 hard-boiled eggs
1 1/2 cups Four Mexican cheeses
1 cup ranch dressing

PREPARATION

Wash the head of lettuce. Peel off any wilted leaves.

Chop up the head of lettuce. (Can you “chop down” a head of lettuce?) This is one of the few times where chopping by hand is far preferred to a food processor. A salad shouldn’t have minuscule strips of lettuce.

Mash or dice the peeled hard-boiled eggs. Again, go for medium size bits. Add the egg bits to the lettuce while they are still warm. Mix in the cheese and dressing.

Simple and tasty.

TIDBITS

1) People from Wisconsin are called “cheese heads.”

2) Nowhere are folks known as “egg-salad heads.”

3) I used to bicycle from Madison, Wisconsin to the tiny town of Paoli to get fresh Swiss cheese.

4) Oh, and I bicycled back, too.
