Paul’s Awesome English Dictionary: Today’s Word – Pqfkqpltw

Foreign words can be difficult to pronounce. Words that we’ve never seen before are also hard to say correctly, such as ‘”reconnaissance” was for eight-year old me. Sure, we could say, “That word is hard to pronounce.” However, that is a sentence, of six words no less. What if we want to say that in just one word, one that evokes the difficulty of a nearly unpronounceable word?

This  paragraph brings us to

What I Did Today

I got a standing ovation!

I got up and contemplated the infinite; it’s quite complex.

After that I showered and dressed.

I went to one of my exercise classes. Helped a friend I had to hurry with my shopping for I am in the Berlin Circus. Rushed to the airport. I did my act. The crowd gave me a standing ovation. That made me very happy.

Flew back from Germany. Made an appointment for physical therapy. (Ongoing issue, I did not injure myself at the circus.) I cooked beef and bean burritos for dinner. Now, I am taking it easy. Whew.

I hope you behaved yourself when I was out of the country.

Paul’s Awesome English Dictionary: Today’s Phrase – Etch a Sketch Memory

How many times has this happened to you? You committed something to memory because it was important. Just moments later, it’s forgotten. A painstakingly created mental portrait gone like that. What shook loose that memory from its resident brain cell? Nothing really, just like your elaborate pictures made with Etch A Sketch(tm.)

Paul’s Awesome English Dictionary: Today’s Word: Bempo

How many times has this happened to you? You wake up tired. Really, really tired. Too tired to change out of pajamas. But it’s important to look spiffy when you go out into the world. But you don’t have to go out into the world. It’s your day off or you’re retired. Screw it, the pajamas stay. So there.

But then you find yourself answering the front door. In your pajamas.

Paul’s Awesome English Dictionary – Today’s Word – Tempid

We are all brilliant, every last one of us. We have scintillating ideas all the time. So, why aren’t we given more credit for our intelligence? Why hasn’t the world been turned into a paradise? Why aren’t a hundred Nobel prizes given out every year?

Because we didn’t write them down the moment our glorious idea illuminated our brain. Something happened. Something distracted us. Taxes perhaps or plain, old, ordinary chores needed to be done. And we forgot. The world will never be improved.  People won’t ever look at us and say, “He made our lives ever so much better, what a wonderful person.”

Misheard Lyrics of KC and the Sunshine Band

The heart-pumping lyrics of “Boogie Shoes” by KC and the Sunshine Band turns us all into dancing fiends, ready to dominate the disco floor. The song alone is an aerobic exercise.

The repetitive lyrics are simplicity itself. So, understanding the song should be easy peasy. The mood the song engenders should also be obvious.

Well, no.

Only if you hear the correct lyrics.

The true lyrics are:

“I wanna put on my, my, my boogie shoes
“Just to boogie with you, yeah”

And now the misheard lyrics which kinda change the meaning:

The Great Latch Hook Project – Part 7

It has not been the happiest of times lately with me taking seven extra days to fix my taxes. Then I shall have to spend $200. Sigh. It is indeed fortunate that adverse winds prevented the penguins from invading the northern six continents as I was simply too busy to pay any attention to these Antarctic adversaries.

Number Two Son made a tasty beef stew. I made Chinese Black Bean Chicken. Good culinary day.

Anyway, I’ve done 82 out of 113 rows. Here is the work so far.

Latch Hook, 4/02/24

Death by Papercuts

As horrible a day can be without really anything bad happening. Death by papercuts.

Spend more time with my tax lady. This one issue has required so much back and forth and it’s not done. Usually, it takes me three days to assemble my information and send it the tax lady. This time, I’m guessing the total time spent on taxes is so far closer to ten days. Nearly all of these extra seven days could have been eliminated if certain entities  had bothered to send me a form with the relevant information.

Then there’s the horror of filling out the vouchers. Sad to say, I have enormous problems getting the addresses correct, and the vouchers and the checks filled out completely and correctly. Also, some other tasks took a long time.

I woke up hours early and have felt like Dresden all day.

Bah.
