Poway Summer Weather Forecast

Everybody wants to visit Poway, California. There are so gosh, darn many movies and shows to see, places to dine, parks to visit, and a library where you can check out books. We even have  more than one discount grocery store. So it’s easy to understand why people want to know what Poway, California’s weather forecast will be for the summer.

So here is Poway’s summer weather forecast.

Sunny and fairly warm during the daytime and cooler and darker at night.

Nobel Peace Prize Winner for 2022

Too often Nobel Prize winners are given to people, worthy though they may be, who have done nothing to affect the lives of any of us. Many of the awards in quantum physics come readily to mind, just as they are as readily forgotten. Many of the winners for the Nobel Peace Prize, pleasant folks everyone of them, didn’t bring about lasting peace. They just gave the cause of peace the good college prize.

Not so this year.

This year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner, Joe Thorvald has developed easy-open, every-time, plastic bags to be used in the produce section. You know how you want to protect your Roma tomatoes. So you try putting them in those sheer plastic bags that the supermarkets offer. The plastic adheres to itself with the relentlessness of the Borg, wind erosion, or a five-year whining for an ice-cream cone. You just can’t open the plastic bags. You give up. You never buy produce again. Your diet becomes nutritionally deficient. This affects your brain. You enter politics. You become your country’s leader. The vitamins that would have kept your brain functioning properly just aren’t there. You declare war on six countries in the morning alone.

Not anymore.

Grilled Jerk Salmon

Jamaican Entree

GRILLED JERK SALMON

INGREDIENTS

2½ tablespoons jerk seasoning*
2½ tablespoons olive oil
2½ tablespoons lime juice
4 5-ounce salmon fillets with skin

* = Jerk seasoning or Jamaican jerk seasoning can be found at many supermarkets, ethnic grocery stores or online. It’s good to have some of this around particularly here where the jerk seasoning combines 14 ingredients.

SPECIAL UTENSILS

outdoor grill
meat thermometer

Serves 4. Takes 1 hour 50 minutes.

PREPARATION

Add jerk seasoning, olive oil, and lime juice to large mixing bowl. Stir this marinade with fork until well blended. Brush both sides of all fillets with marinade. Place coated salmon fillets on plates. Let marinate in refrigerator for 1 hour 30 minutes.

Preheat outdoor grill to medium Place salmon fillets on grill, skin side down. Grill for 5 minutes. Flip fillets. Grill for another 3 minutes or until salmon is opaque and flaky.

Or if you have a meat thermometer, take the salmon off the grill when the internal temperature reaches 125. Let the fillets sit for 3 minutes. This will get a medium salmon fillet. The FDA recommends an internal temperature of 145 degrees. Goodness.

TIDBITS

1) Jamaicans love grilled jerk salmon. The salmon of choice remains the King Salmon which can weigh over 120 pounds. Strong chefs lifted the hefty salmon to the cleaning table to clean the fish.. Then the chefs brushed the King Salmon with a jerk marinade. After an hour, the cooks placed the salmon on the grill. The whole process became the Clean, Jerk, and Grill.

2) Many people watched the muscular men lift and prepare the salmon. In 1921, preparing this dish became a national sport. The Clean, Jerk, and Grill became an Olympic sport in 1948. As salmon goes bad quickly under hot summer sun, organizers switched out salmon for metallic weights and so the event has remained as the Clean and Jerk. (Because you can’t grill weights.) Now you know.

Spice Substitutions

SPICE SUBSTITUTIONS

Not everyone has 100 bottles and bags of spices and herbs. Not everyone wants to drive five miles to a grocery store just to get one spice, particularly if the contents in your pan are about to burn. Dear harried chefs, this spice substitution list is dedicated to you.

Allspice – Cassia, cinnamon, ginger, mace, nutmeg, cloves (ground)BerbSpi-
Aniseed – fennel seed, anise extract (only a few drops)
Annato powder – turmeric
Cardamom – cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg
Cassia – allspice, cinnamon
Chili powder – cumin, hot pepper sauce, oregano
Cinnamon – allspice (use 1/4 as much), cassia, mace, nutmeg
Cloves, ground – allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg
Cumin – chili powder
Fennel seed – aniseed
Ginger – allspice, chili powder, cardamom, mace, nutmeg
Mace – allspice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg
Mustard, powder – horseradish powder, wasabi powder (1/4 times as much), prepared mustard (3 times as much)
Nutmeg – allspice, cardamom, ginger, mace
Saffron – Only a dash for color of: annato powder, turmeric
Turmeric – annato powder, mustard powder
