Orphaned Tidbits

Didn’t rise enough. I has sad.

My recipes have funny tidbits at the end. This was the case for my sourdough-bread recipe. I wrote up the recipe. I wrote the tidbits. Unfortunately, I didn’t come up with a recipe worked for me. But I still had the tidbits for the sourdough recipe.

And here they are, the Orphaned Tidbits:

1) Ancient Egypt got a big jump on civilization compared to its Mediterranean and Near Eastern neighbors. Why was Ancient Egypt so advanced? It was the first nation to bake sourdough bread. Sourdough bread originated in ancient Egypt around 1500 BC.

2) Rome didn’t even get founded until 753 BC. It didn’t start conquering until about 250 BC.

3) Rome’s empire did not derive from vast amounts of sourdough bread. Oh sure it had some. (See Pistoria Uvam Massam Panis by Flavius the Younger.) Rather, Rome conquered the Mediterranean and parts of Europe with its vast, superbly trained army. So, global importance arises from sourdough bread and big armed forces.

4) The Unites States operates a huge military. America also has lots and lots of sourdough bread, especially from San Francisco.

5) China also possesses an immense military, but relatively few loaves of sourdough bread. China is also powerful, but not as much as America.

6) Sourdough starters have been found in Egyptian tombs, indicating that the Egyptians baked sourdough bread. A hieroglyph in a Theban temple depicts Keith Richards baking sourdough bread for Pharaoh Amenhotep II.

7) In 1620, Yeoman Keith Richards sailed on the Mayflower to Plymouth Rock. He ,brought sourdough starters with him. Soon sourdough baking spread all through the 13 colonies. Not so much, in the mother country, Great Britain. This is why is America is the more powerful nation.

What I Did and Didn’t Do Today

I went to physical therapy today to get the muscles in my lower back and legs stretched. Indeed, I am making progress despite spectacular fall in the kitchen last night.

My tight muscles, tendons, thingies are, no doubt, I did not start as quarterback for ANY NFL team last weekend. And my prospects for playing this weekend are fading rapidly.

But I shall perservere. Soon you will, Paul “TD Man” De Lancey leading a lucky team to the Super Bowl. Go, Paul, go!

You Know You Want to Party With Me

My pantry, it’s organized

I want straight from sleeping in bed to fighting a website in order to schedule an MRI. It was much harder than it should have been.

Watched a squirrel run around outside my outside door. The therapeutic value of squirrels is immense. Also, it just so happens that the squirrels who hide in the hedges are veterans from Paul’s Flying Squirrel Squadron. They worked alongside our regular armed forces and did the jobs that are literally too small for our human service people to do. They have seen things no squirrel should have to see and performed mighty deeds for our country. I salute you, my furry warriors.

Four 8-cup Mason jars were delivered last night. So with a lilt in my heart, I further reorganized my shelves of flours, sugars, etc.

A well-earned bowl of strawberry Cheerios provided the sustenance I needed for my next project.

I completely reorganized the pantry. I know, such fun!

Now, I’m writing up my activities in the hopes that they’ll inspire you to peform your own deed of greatness. And dare  I say it, impel you to meet up with me where we will knock back great steins of cranberry grape juice and sing the songs of our people until the police shoo us outside for causing a ruckus.

I will now take a bath–with bath bombs of course–and read a book about the worst modern teams in baseball.

And then at night, I’ll view the detective series Vera and Death Valley Days hosted by the Old Ranger.

You know you want to party with me.

Kitchen Tips, #3, The Oven

Using the oven can be daunting, if not downright terrifying.

“The oven is so confusing, ” I hear you say.  “Won’t someone please tell us how to use it?”

I’m glad you asked. Yes, indeed the oven can be intimidating with all those dials.

However, you’ll bake an excellent dish everytime if follow these basic steps.

1) Preheat the oven.

2) Put the food to be baked in the oven. (This is a critical step or so a friend told me.)

3) Take the food out. (Also important, unless of course, you’re trying to make charcoal and black smoke.)

There you have it, you chef, you.

Ramen Crust Pizza

Fusion Entree

­

RAMEN CRUST PIZZA

­
INGREDIENTS
­
2 packages (6 ounces) ramen noodles
1 egg
¼ cup Parmesan cheese, shredded
¾ teaspoon pizza seasoning
2½ tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
no-stick spray
¾ cup pizza or pasta sauce
¾ cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
12 pepperoni slices

SPECIAL UTENSILS
­
10″ no-stick skillet
pizza pan or baking sheet
­
Serves 4. Takes 45 minutes.
­
PREPARATION
­
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Add enough water to cover noodles to large pot. Bring to boil using high heat. Add ramen noodles Continue boiling for 2 minutes or until noodles become flexible, but not completely soft. Drain.
­
Add egg, Parmesan cheese, and pizza seasoning to large mixing bowl. Mix with whisk or fork until well blended. Add ramen noodles. Mix with fork until noodles are completely coated.
­
Add olive oil to skillet. Heat olive oil at medium heat until a bit of Parmesan cheese starts to dance in the oil. Add ramen noodles. Parmesan cheese mixture. Use spatula to press down on mixture until it completely covers the skillet. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 minutes or until mixture turns into a pizza crust that is golden brown on the bottom. Remove ramen crust from heat.
­
Spray pizza pan with no-stick spray. Place ramen crust on pizza pan. Use spatula to spread pizza sauce over ramen crust. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese onto pizza sauce. Top with pepperoni slices. Bake for 20 minutes at 425 degrees or until cheese melts and starts to brown.
­
TIDBITS
­
1) Long ago, voyages from Europe to Japan took so long that any bread went moldy. Spaghetti endured, though. So, vessels carried spaghetti. But this pasta lasted only to Japan. Unfortunately, Japan only made ramen. So, crews ate ramen all the way back. Meals remained bland until a cook, Guiseppe Verdi, invented Ramen Crust Pizza. Making 1,296 identical meals, however, inspired Cook Verdi to compose The Four Seasons and other stuff instead. This is how we know him.

My Good Day

My stunt double

Woke up. Feel out of bed.

Number Two Son announced he passed the last two tests necessary to get a CPA. Huzzah! I am so proud.

Did finances.

Did errands. Made my first long drive since having surgery. Go me.

Went to my arts and crafts class which was also a baby shower. The mom to be was so pleased that so many people showed up and that she received so many nice gifts.

I finished the Charlie Brown latch-hook project that I started some six months back. Go me.

Made the long drive back.

Good day.

My Angel of Mercy

I’ve been quite depressed because of non-stop health problems, including Covid and surgery.
